Mark and Wendy’s Excellent Adventure: Taking an overdue nap and wondering about Barbie

Day 51 of our 190 day sojourn

Tuesday, August 15, 2023 — Mishawaka

This is not going to be one of the more interesting posts. I am getting fixated on getting my book published and I have only so many brain cells. Part of being 70, I guess.

So, here we go:

The return to “mostly normal” has been smooth. We are back in the Mishawaka area until August 31 at which time we head for Denver. We are living at a variety of locations, including six days in our own home, using someone else’s stuff.

Today, for the first time in I am not sure how long, I had a couple of hours all alone. Yes, it was in a room at our friend’s house, but Wendy had decided to go see the Barbie movie with friends and I had a chance to spend my morning doing my Panera thing, play nine holes of golf with two friends, and get one of my favorite lunches at a rib place close to Notre Dame.

So, when I returned to “our current residence,” I let the dog out and a few minutes later I did what I have wanted to do for 51 days.

I took a nap.  I slept right through a “beer with the boys” offer I had, but I am sure they had a great time without me. I had a great time without them. And without Wendy. An undisturbed nap is a wonderful thing.

Wendy and her friend returned after I woke up and said the Barbie movie was good and did not see very much that they would call controversial. I may need to see for myself. The media portrays it as some kind of “woke” agenda, or not. The media portrays it as some kind of liberal sexual attempt to sway our preteens to experiment, or not.

I really don’t know but am wondering if it will be strange for a 70-year- old man to go see a Barbie movie by himself.

Hmmmmmm.

Also, I decided to try to do the self-publish thing on my own for my book, “Julie and the Odd Duck.”  I am going to allow three days to get it ready to send and then it is only a week or so until it goes on sale. Of course, three days might become three weeks. But I think it is time I figured out how to do this stuff.

Oh, yeah, as I am typing this, I am watching “Legally Blonde.”

Maybe I can go see the Barbie Movie by myself.

Now if I can find the perfect fedora. Does anyone know if they come in pink?
